EP approves ratification of agreement for EC joining Eurocontrol [ full text ]

The European Parliament on 20 April gave its assent to the ratification of the agreement by which the Community becomes a full member of Eurocontrol, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation. In doing so, it followed the recommendation of rapporteur MEP Christine DE VEYRAC (EPP-ED, F), who believes this will help ensure better coordination between EU and Eurocontrol initiatives regarding air traffic control.

Job opportunities: European Aviation Safety Agency recruits 25 temporary agents [ full text ]

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has published 25 new posts of temporary agents to work in the Cologne based institution. The main task of EASA is to ensure a high level of safety an environmental protection in the field of civil aviation. To this end, the Agency will assist the Commission in the latter's legislative and regulatory tasks. The posts include the Internal Audit Manager, Standardisation Manager, Legal Adviser Finance & Procurement, Financial Assistant, Safety Analysis & Research Manager, Communications Manager, technical experts, HR Assistants,   Secretaries, and other posts. The closing dates to deliver application forms are, for certain posts the 18th May 2004, and for others the 28th May 2004.

Commission approves aid set to increase freight transport on short-sea shipping in UK [ full text ]

The European Commission has decided on 20 April not to raise any objection to the Waterborne Freight Grant (WFG) aid scheme which will encourage the modal shift of freight from road to water by granting aid to new/existing coastal, short sea or inland waterway services provided that they avoid lorry journeys and that they generate environmental benefits within the UK.

Road Transport in the web site of Energy & Transport DG

Commission gives go-ahead to defer regional aid scheme for road transport in the Lake Maggiore area (Italy) [ full text ]

On 20 April the European Commission gave the regional authorities of Piedmont the go-ahead to put into action in 2004 the aid scheme which it approved on 9 July 2003. This scheme to divert heavy goods traffic away from the Lake Maggiore State highway 33 to the A26 motorway was originally scheduled to operate between June and September 2003. In the end, it will now run from 1 June to 30 September 2004.

Start-up aid for rail and maritime services in Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Commission closes the investigation procedure [ full text ]

The European Commission decided today to end the formal investigation procedure(1) relating to the start-up aid for the development of new rail and maritime services departing from or heading to Friuli-Venezia Giulia, since the notified measure has been withdrawn by the Italian authorities.

I you were not able to attend the "Symposium Energy Education" on 12 March 2004, or the conference "The Buildings Directive - opportunities at a local level" on 5 March 2004, you can now watch the videos of both events in the web site of ManageEnergy. So will be the videos and interventions of the forthcoming events, including on 25 & 26 May 2004 - two Co-Opet Workshops on: Deploying new technologies and efficiency measures to reduce transport's CO2 emissions, and on 2 July 2004 - European Conference for Municipal Energy Managers. Mission of the Directorate-General Energy and Transport

New organisational chart for DG TREN [ full text ]

The Directorate General for Energy and Transport has undergo a deep reorganisation that will be operative on May 1st. The new structure will welcome the high civil servants of the new Member States. DG TREN will count from now on with 10 directorates including the new directorate J for Security and protection of people, goods and installations. A  new deputy Director General coming from the new Member States will co-ordinate the directorates of land, air and maritime transport.

New CALLS FOR PROPOSALS to obtaining grants in the field of transport, Organisation of conferences, and Inteligent-Energy Europe [ full text ]

The Directorate General for Energy and Transport has recently published new calls for proposals to obtain grants in the field of transport. The estimated total amount of this call is about € 15,4 million, € 11,4 million for road safety and € 4 million for internal market optimisation of transport systems. The deadline for submission of proposals is 30 June 2004. The web site also publishes a call for proposals for Organisation of conferences in the field of energy and transport, with an estimated total amount of € 250.000. The deadline for submission of proposals is also 30 June 2004. You can also find the calendar and conditions for the call for proposals for actions under the programme "Intelligent Energy-Europe with its own calendar.
