Commission moves smartly to launch European Mobility Week [ full text ]

16 of September is the start of this year's European Mobility Week. Mobility Week is a week-long event, first launched by the European Commission in 2002, to promote sustainable modes of transport in cities. The week will culminate with 'Car Free Day' on 22 September. This year's theme is "Safe Streets for Children," and over 1,000 cities across the European Union will participate. The Commission launches the week with a high-level conference in Brussels, called “Smart Moves for Sustainable Mobility” focusing on how to give people options to change their behaviour to more sustainable means of transport.

Commission approves acquisition of Shell’s Portuguese activities by Repsol [ full text ]

The European Commission has granted on 14 September clearance under the Merger Regulation to the proposed acquisition of Shell’s oil products businesses in Portugal by Spanish oil company Repsol YPF. The transaction does not raise competition concerns since other large and capable players compete in the market.  Repsol is active in the exploration, development, production, refining and marketing of petroleum, natural gas and derived petroleum products such as bitumen. Shell Portugal supplies hydrocarbon products in Portugal, including automotive, aviation, marine and construction fuels, lubricants and bitumen.
