EU-India Working Groups on energyUnder the umbrella of the India-EU Energy Panel, the following working groups were established:
Working Group meetings Renewable energy/energy efficiency: 23 March 2006 : The constitutive meeting of the EU-India Working Group on energy efficiency/renewable energy took place on 23 March 2006 in New Delhi. Its main objectives were to exchange information on the sector in the two regions, to define the working methods of the group and to identify areas of further co-operation. It was also decided to enlarge the representation of the group in order to include more stakeholders from both sides and especially industry. The meeting was held back-to-back with the constitutive meeting of the WG on coal/clean coal technology. 31 January 2007 : The 2nd meeting of the working group was held on 31 January 2007 in the premises of Directorate-general for Energy and Transport of the European Commission in Brussels. The agenda and the participants list are annexed to the minutes. The main objectives of this meeting were to exchange information on the situation in India and the EU in the specific domains of energy efficiency of end-use appliances, on cogeneration and on biofuels as well as to identify concrete areas for cooperation within these domains. 22 March 2006 : The constitutive meeting of the EU-India Working Group on coal/clean coal technology took place on 22 March 2006 in New Delhi. Its main objectives were to exchange information on the coal sector in the two regions, to define the working methods of the group and to identify areas of further co-operation. It was also decided to enlarge the representation of the group in order to include more stakeholders from both sides and especially industry. The meeting was held back-to-back with the constitutive meeting of the WG on energy efficiency/renewable energy. 28-29 November 2006 : The 2nd meeting of this group was held on 29 November 2006 in Brussels preceded by field visits in the German Saar coal district on 28 November 2006. During the WG meeting, experts operating in the coal sector (public, private and academia) from both sides gave presentations followed by discussions related to specific issues in the coal sector. This meeting facilitated concrete contacts between Indian and EU companies and associations. Presentations given
21 January 2008: The meeting of the working group on coal/clean coal technologies took place on 21 January 2008 in New Delhi. During the meeting, experts from public and private sectors and academia from both sides gave presentations related, in particular, to carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. Presentations given 17 June 2008: The meeting of the working group on coal took place on 17 June 2008 in Brussels. Representatives of the Ministry of Coal, the European Commission, European and Indian industry and academia discussed the situation and developments in the EU and Indian coal sectors, lignite mining and Underground Coal Gasification (UCG). The meeting was followed by a visit to a lignite mine and power plant in Belchatow, Poland. 18 June 2008: In the margins of the meetings of the EU-India working groups on coal and clean coal technologies, a visit to a lignite mine and power plant in Belchatow, Poland, was organized for the Indian delegation. 20 June 2008: The meeting of the working group on clean coal technologies took place on 20 June 2008 in Brussels and was preceded by a visit to a lignite mine and power plant in Belchatow, Poland. The meeting focused on the situation in the Indian power sector, energy efficiency improvements of the power plants, as well as EU industry expertise in clean coal technologies. Future activities of the working group were also discussed. 1-2 February 2006 : The constitutive meeting of the Fusion-ITER Working Group took place in the Institute for Plasma Research, Ghandinagar, Gujarat, India on 1 and 2 February 2006. Its main objective was to exchange information on the respective fusion activities and to discuss possible means of further collaborations in fusion and to pave the way for India becoming full member of the international ITER partnership. ITER is an international tokamak (magnetic confinement fusion) research project designed to demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of a full-scale fusion power reactor. 29 March 2007: The 2nd meeting of this group was held on 29 March 2007 in Marseille, France. The agenda included discussions on the progress in the implementation of ITER, on Test Blanket Modules, on neutral beam test facilities and on the work towards a bilateral agreement on fusion between Euratom and India. 25 January 2007 : The constitutive meeting of the EU-India Working Group on petroleum/natural gas took place on 25 January 2007 in Brussels. Its main objectives were to exchange information on the petroleum and gas sectors in the two regions, to define the working methods of the group and to identify areas of further co-operation. Stakeholders from industry and research participated actively in the meeting. Presentations given
26 November 2007: The second meeting of the working group on petroleum and natural gas took place on 26 November 2007 in New Delhi. Experts from the EU and India discussed different aspects of the oil and gas sector, including updates on policy developments and various aspects of the oil and gas sector such as upstream, refining, LNG, and downstream. Representatives of the EU industry (Total, BG and GDF) participated in the meeting, informing the working group of their activities in India.
