ICT Research and Innovation Implementation

Programme Coordination (Unit F.3)
Goal

Efficient implementation of ICT Research and Innovation strategy in H2020 and CEF

Action
Situation

Horizon 2020 integrates Research and Innovation in the same Programme, ensures a more collegial approach to Societal Challenges across several Directorate General (DGs), and broadens Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) to the entire Programme. Moreover, part of the deployment of ICT R&I will be carried out under the Connecting Europe Facility. This has repercussions on the implementation level, as it implies new ways of preparing Work Programmes, taking into account new approaches and instruments. At the same time, dialogue between Member States and the European Commission must be maintained together with outreach activities such as ICT information events

Mandate
ICT R&I acts on several fronts of the EU growth and jobs strategy, Europe 2020, as it contributes directly to the flagship initiatives for an Innovation Union and a Digital Agenda for Europe. ICT R&I strategy is implemented through Horizon 2020, whereas deployment actions are part of the Connecting Europe Facility. The main implementing instruments are the Work Programmes, containing the calls for project proposals, whose drafting requires coordination with the Member States and the provision of related information to stakeholders
