Culture is a crucial factor for development. That was the clear message of the event "Culture in Action" in 2009 European Development Days in Stockholm. During a talk show discussion, internationally renowned artists exchanged their views on the role of culture in development cooperation. The event highlighted important issues: Culture enables people and societies to build an identity and to develop active citizenship. It can contribute to conflict prevention as well as to reconciliation processes. And, not the least, it pays off in terms of jobs and growth.
