EU Aid programme for the Turkish Cypriot Community
03.09.2013 The European Commission (EC) has announced the launch of the Fourth Call For Proposal of the grant scheme "Cypriot Civil Society in Action". The EC has launched a €2,500,000 call for proposals to support projects with the following objectives:
A) Strengthen Cypriot civil society in the northern part of Cyprus as key actor in the development of a culture of dialogue, participation in the community life and the promotion of values of tolerance, peace and active citizenship; and
B) Promote reconciliation, dialogue, closer relationship and trust between the Turkish Cypriot and the Greek Cypriot communities through joint actions organised by civil society organisations from both communities.
Similarly to previous calls, the fourth call for proposals targets these two objectives by defining two differentiated lots:
A) Lot 1 – Active Civil Society Actions - is in line with the first objective and partnerships of Turkish Cypriot Civil Society Organisations are invited to submit project proposals in the fields of environment and Human Rights, with an orientation to social dialogue, advocacy, awareness raising and direct services to beneficiaries. Lot 1 has been allocated € 1,500,000.
B) Lot 2 – Reconciliation Actions – is in line with the second objective and Turkish Cypriot Civil Society Organisations are invited to submit project proposals in partnership with Greek Cypriot Civil Society Organisations in the fields of environment, Human Rights and culture and sports. Lot 2 has been allocated € 1,000,000.
The call represents a unique opportunity to engage in networking, capacity building and communication strategies to address island-wide concerns such as protection of habitats and ecosystems or protection of vulnerable groups of population. The full Guidelines for potential grant Applicants are available for consultation on the following internet site: http://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/work/funding/index_en.htm
The deadline for submission of proposals (Concept Notes) is 21 October2013, 17:00 Cyprus local time.
In the first instance only concept notes would have to be submitted. Applicants whose concept notes have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application.
A launch event and information meeting for this call will be held on 10 September 2013 from 18:00 to 20.00 at the Bedestan, Nicosia in the presence of European Commission officials. Interested local stakeholders are invited to attend.
A series of information sessions and trainings is under preparations and will take place in early September 2013. More information on these sessions and trainings will be available in the above-mentioned web site and will also be made public in local media.
This initiative is funded under the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community, managed by the European Commission.
