An innovative new project facilitating Island wide dialogue
15.03.2013 The Meeting Point, an initiative supported by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and operated by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR), will be inaugurated at the Home for Cooperation, on Tuesday, 19th March, 2013, at 18.00.
The Meeting Point's mission is to promote bi-communal dialogue and facilitate co-operation between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. It will offer citizens free of charge information, advice, assistance and answers regarding the European Union's priorities, legislation, policies and programmes.
In view of the current situation in Cyprus, the UN Buffer Zone is the most commonly accepted area to promote further development of trust, dialogue, co-operation and reconciliation between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities. Therefore, the Home for Cooperation (H4C) located in the UN Buffer Zone constitutes the unique location for establishing The Meeting Point.
Within the framework of the operation of the Meeting Point, the AHDR will be running a series of activities, centered on education, youth and culture. Some of the activities to be launched in the next few months, will include a film festival, an oral history initiative for active ageing, a photography competition, a music concert, a story telling club for children, public debates on social issues such as gender violence and much more.
At the launch event, you will also have the chance to see a photo exhibition showcasing photos received from across the island. These photos were submitted at the DigiMe photo and film competitions of 2011 and 2012 on the themes of Climate Change & Energy (2011) and Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations (2012). The exhibition will remain open until the 26th of March (opening hours 09:00 – 17:00).
