Information visit to Brussels on environmental issues

The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus is organising an information visit to Brussels between 17 and 20 April 2013 for Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot Representatives of NGOs working on environmental issues such as - and not limited to - environmental protection, climate change, innovative and friendly to the environment energy solutions, waste management and recycling, water protection, sustainable transport, air quality and other related areas.
The aim of the visit is to acquaint the participants with the European Union's institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament, European Economic and Social Committee and Committee of the Regions). Main focus will be given to the European integration, citizens' rights and the policies of the European Union and particularly the actions of the Commission in Environmental Protection and Climate Change. Presentations on the initiatives of the European Union with respect to Environment and Climate Change will be given to the participants who will have the opportunity to network and create bonds between them as well as with policy officers of the European Commission who will be attending the meetings for possible future collaboration.
The costs of the visit are covered by the European Commission. These includes the flight ticket from Larnaca to Brussels and return, the bus transfer from the centre of Nicosia to the airport on departure and return, the accommodation, the transportation in Brussels from and to the airport and the meeting places and certain meals. Please note that no interpretation will be available, therefore excellent command of the English language is a requirement.
Eligible for the visit are members of NGOs actively involved in the areas of environmental protection and climate change in Cyprus. The persons should represent a non-governmental organisation.
Due to the limited number of places a selection based on factors such as diversity and activities of the organisation should be taken in account. Normally one person per organisation will be participating.
The interested persons should submit their application by Friday 29 March 2013 with the nomination form of your organisation. The application consists of necessary data of the applicant, motivation letter, a description of the objectives of the Non-governmental organisation and a nomination from the non-governmental organization.
The selected participants will be informed on 1 April 2013.
