The aim of the visit is to acquaint the participants with the European Union's institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament, European Economic and Social Committee and Committee of the Regions.) Main focus will be given to the European integration, European policy and law making, gender issues, women in civil society, promotion of women entrepreneurship, business opportunities for women, equality, equal pay, women in management posts and non-discrimination. Furthermore, the participants will have the opportunity to network and create bonds between them as well as with officers of the European Commission who will be attending the meetings for possible future collaboration.
The costs of the visit are covered by the European Commission. These includes the flight ticket from Larnaca to Brussels and return, the bus transfer from the centre of Nicosia to the airport on departure and return, the accommodation, the transportation in Brussels from and to the airport and the meeting places and certain meals. Please note that no interpretation will be available, therefore excellent command of the English language is a requirement.
Eligible for the visit are women actively involved in the social and cultural life of Cyprus. They should represent a non-governmental Organization with actions on strengthening the role of women in the society. The non-governmental organization should nominate and recommend the woman applying.
Due to the limited number of places a selection based on factors such as diversity and activities of the organisation should be taken in account. Normally one person per organisation will be participating.
