Europe Day 2012 celebrations in Cyprus
08.05.2012 On the occasion of Europe Day (9 May), the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus is organising and participating in a series of events and activities, in order to promote Europe to both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
On Tuesday, 8 May, the Municipality of Limassol, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the Coordinating Council of Limassol Cultural Agencies are organising an open discussion at 18:30 in the Patticheio Center for the Elderly, Limassol, entitled "Active Ageing and Culture", to honour the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012, within the context of Europe Day.
On Wednesday, 9 May, the Municipality of Lakatamia is organising an event for Europe Day, at 18:00, to be addressed by the Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, Mr Georgios Markopouliotis and the Mayor of Lakatamia, Mr Loukas Iatrou.
On Thursday, 10 May, the Embassy of Denmark, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus are organising a reception at the Old Mosaic Restaurant at Selimiye Square in the northern part of Nicosia, from 19:00 to 21:30, to celebrate Europe Day.
On Saturday, 12 May, the Embassy of Denmark, the Cyprus Cycling Federation, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus are organising together the Bicycle Tour of Nicosia, starting at 10:30 in front of the EU House (30 Byron Avenue). The event will be addressed by the Danish Ambassador Kirsten Geelan, the Head of Representation, Mr Georgios Markopouliotis, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Mr Sofoklis Aletraris and the Minister of Communications and Works, Mr Efthymios Flourentzou. All bike lovers in Cyprus are invited to join us for a fun day to promote green mobility and the bicycle culture in Nicosia.
On Sunday, 13 May, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus, the Press and Information Office, the Europe Direct Information Centre Larnaca and the Municipality of Larnaca, together with the Embassies of the EU Member States, are organising the main event for the Europe Day celebrations at Phinikoudes, Larnaca, from 18:00 to 23:00. The celebration will take the form of a street festival followed by an open reception. The Mayor of Larnaca, Mr Andreas Louroutziatis, will open the event and the presenter will be Ms Christina Demetriou. The festival includes an artistic programme by Larkos Larkou, the Charis Ioannou Quartet, Tango project, as well as children's activities and stands for handing out information and promotional material by the organisers and the EU Embassies.
On Wednesday, 16 May, the 12th International Pharos Chamber Music Festival opens with a concert with Lars Hannibal and Michala Petri at the Shoe Factory, supported by the Embassy of Denmark. The same musicians will perform on Thursday, 17 May, at Bedesten concert in the northern part of Nicosia.
