Director-General for Interpretation visited Cyprus
23.03.2012 Marco Benedetti, the European Commission's Director-General for Interpretation, visited Cyprus on 19-21 March. He met with the European Union Division of the Foreign Ministry in order to put into place the details of interpretation for the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council.
Mr Benedetti said: "I am confident and I wish you a very successful Presidency, which is a first for you. We invest a lot of energy and resources in preparation of the presidencies."
Marco Benedetti also met with the Ministry of Education and Culture where he discussed interpreter training and the possibilities of reviving a conference interpreter training course at the University of Cyprus.
The Directorate-General for Interpretation (DG Interpretation – also known as SCIC) is the European Commission’s interpreting service and conference organiser. It reports to Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou.
DG Interpretation provides quality interpretation in meetings arranged by the Commission and the other Institutions it serves, and provides a conference organising capacity to Commission services. The Council of the Union, The Committee of the Regions, The European Economic and Social Committee, The European Investment Bank, and the agencies and offices in the Member Statesall get their interpreters from DG Interpretation.
