The Representation organises information visit to Brussels (19-22 February 2012)
27.01.2012 The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus is organising an information visit to Brussels between the 19th and the 22nd of February 2012 for Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot Representatives of NGOs (non-governmental organizations) actively involved in the social, economic and cultural life of Cyprus, such as volunteering organizations as well as organizations active in the fields of culture and social activities and leadership.

This information visit is not intended for representatives of political parties or political NGOs (including trade unions), since the Representation is organising dedicated information visits for such kind of organizations.
The aim of the visit is to acquaint the participants with the European Union's institutions (Commission, Council, Parliament, European Economic and Social Committee and Committee of the Regions). The participants are expected to become multipliers upon return to Cyprus. Main focus will be given to the European integration and citizens' rights. Presentations on the initiatives of the European Union with respect to NGOs will be given to the participants, who will also have the chance to discuss about funding of activities. Furthermore, the participants will have the opportunity to network and create bonds between them, as well as with officers of the European Commission who will be attending the meetings, for possible future collaboration.
The costs of the visit (flight ticket, accommodation, transportation in Brussels to and from the airport as well as the meeting places, and certain meals) are covered by the European Commission. Please note that no interpretation will be available, therefore excellent command of the English language is a must.
Eligible for the visit are representatives of NGOs actively involved in the social and cultural life of Cyprus. The NGO should nominate and recommend the person applying with a duly signed letter of nomination by the Board/President/Executive Director.
Due to the limited number of places, a selection based on factors such as diversity and activities of the organization will be made. The relevance of the NGO to EU policies and its ability to disseminate to further stakeholders in Cyprus the information on the EU policies acquired during the visit should also be taken into account. Normally one person per organization will be participating.
The interested persons should submit their application by 10 February 2012 together with all elements as required in the application form which has to be returned to the Representation duly and completely filled in; that is the necessary personal data (legible copy of passport or travelling document for the issuing of the e-ticket, telephone number and email address), motivation letter, a description of the objectives of the NGO and the nomination letter signed by the NGO which the person represents.
The selected participants will be informed on 14 February 2012.
The application form can be obtained by Mr Kontogeorgos Lampros and it should be returned to him by the deadline either by email (preferred) or in hand to the Representation of the European Commission at the EU House. The application form is also available for download here
