Europe Day Festivities @ The Home for Cooperation

10.05.2013 Taste, dance and be part of Multicultural Europe! The Association for Historical Dialogue & Research (AHDR) and the European Commission Representation in Cyprus are co-organizing a day of festivities to celebrate Europe Day (9th May) and the second birthday of the Home for Cooperation on Saturday, 11th May 2013, from 4p.m. till late.

Celebrations will also include the launch of the two new initiatives of the EC Representation in Cyprus – The Meeting Point and lemonCY.eu.

The Meeting Point, an initiative supported by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and operated by the AHDR, will offer citizens free of charge information, advice, assistance and answers regarding the European Union's priorities, legislation, policies and programmes. Located at the H4C, The Meeting Point’s mission is to promote bi-communal dialogue and facilitate co-operation between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.

lemonCY.eu will be a trilingual web space where news from one of the main two communities on the island will be available in the language of the other. lemonCY.eu is established under the auspices of the Yenidüzen newspaper, with support and funding from the European Commission Representation in Cyprus. It is the Representation's view that the existence of such an online space will facilitate mutual understanding and dialogue.

During the festivities, people of every age will have the opportunity to sample delicious flavours from around Cyprus and enjoy a traditional folk dance performance by the HASDER youth group.  Other highlights of the day include live music performances by MIMA and traditional music group Oi Las featuring Umut Albayrak. MIMA offers music-making and song writing workshops in communities around the world, and train young leaders to lead these workshops in their home communities. Their goal is to help people create, communicate and cultivate a better understanding of themselves and the world around them.

Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the DigiMe photo exhibition, showcasing photographs from the competitions supported by the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus of 2011 and 2012 on the themes of Climate Change & Energy (2011) and Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations (2012).

Everyone is welcome!
