What was it?
The designation of 2012 as the EU-China Year of Intercultural Dialogue was one of the outcomes of the EU-China Joint Declaration(383 kB)
of 22/10/2007, which called for reinforced cooperation in the field of culture.
What did it aim to achieve?
The initiative was designed to foster long-term cultural cooperation between the EU and China through the achievement of three main objectives:
- promoting and strengthening intercultural dialogue,
- establishing and developing structured and sustainable cooperation,
- establishing sustainable policy dialogue on issues of common interest.
The initiative was designed not only to cover culture, but also related fields contributing to mutual understanding and exchanges between civil society, notably in the fields of education, research, multilingualism, and youth.
