Cultural cooperationEvery year, the Culture 2000 programme provides funding for European theatre projects with a range of themes, such as: the establishment of triennial cooperation networks, including the Theorem network, which supports theatrical productions and theatre tours throughout Europe, including the Avignon Festival; social integration and democracy, for example by means of the Cassandre project, which uses an intercultural approach to raise public awareness of human rights issues; artistic innovation, whether by mixing different artistic disciplines as in the Trix (lien pas bon ) project or by using multimedia technology; training and free movement for those in the theatre industry, via workshops, meetings, traineeships, etc. In its Resolution of December 1999, the Council emphasised the importance of the free movement of artists. This is essential in order to foster cooperation between professionals in the cultural sector, promote the access of citizens to culture and the arts, and encourage a sense of European awareness in general.
