At the end of a city’s year as European Capital of Culture, evaluation reports are produced as a way of assessing the management and impact of the year, demonstrating the benefits of the year, and establishing and sharing good practice.

Universities and experts in the field are now developing a number of evaluation tools:

In the framework of the reflection about the continutaion of the European Capital of culture event beyond 2019, the Commission ordered an independent evaluation about the current selection and monitoring procedures introduced by Decision1622/2006/EC.
