Cultures on my street photo competition: Winners will be revealed at an award ceremony on 25 September!

The photo competition “Cultures on my street,” which was part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008, ended on 30 June with a big success: Over 2,000 pictures were submitted by residents from all 27 EU Member States with Portugal, France, Romania, Spain and Italy being strongly represented.
On 25 September, the four lucky winners will be awarded their prizes – professional cameras and trips to European capital cities – personally by n Figel’, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth. The ceremony will take place at Commission’s Berlaymont building in Brussels

The four winners are from Malta, France, Belgium and Denmark – more details will be revealed only at the award ceremony itself. Three of the winners were selected by an international professional jury featuring professor and photographer Chris Wainwright, film director and screenwriter Radu Mih─âileanu, photo journalist Jay Ullal, writer and photographer Zsuzsanna Ardó and photographers Charles Fréger, Ahmet Polat and Arja Hyytiäinen. The fourth winner will receive the Public’s Favourite award and has been chosen by the European public through online voting on the Cultures on my street website.

The four winning and 21 additional short-listed photographs chosen by the jury will also be on display at the Berlaymont building esplanade from 25 September to 31 October. This will be a showcase of the most striking, beautiful and creative visuals that represent the landscape of intercultural dialogue in the EU today. The exhibition will then travel around, bringing visions of intercultural dialogue all over Europe.
