Rewarding success and tuned to the future

The fifth annual European Border Breakers Awards for European music take place in Cannes, France on 27 January 2008.

The awards, which are jointly organised by the European Commission and representatives of the music industry, go to ten debut albums by artists from around the European Union, in recognition of their success in European and international markets. Last year’s winners included “Veneer” by Jose Gonzales (Sweden), “Celtic Woman” by Celtic Woman (Ireland) and “Un Monde Parfait” by Ilona Mitrecey (France).

The European Commission supports artists and cultural professionals in more than 30 countries through its cultural programme. An informal meeting will take place before the awards ceremony; with European culture ministers and industry representatives discussing how policies can help promote music in the future.
