The European Commission will award the European Heritage Label on 8 April, 2014 in Brussels. European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Multilingualism, Androulla Vassiliou, will be on hand at the ceremony.
The award highlights heritage sites that celebrate and symbolise European integration, ideals and history.
At the end of 2013, a selection panel composed of independent experts assessed the applications for the first European Heritage Labels based on set criteria and recommended in its report that the Label be awarded to the 4 following sites:
The awarded sites will be entitled to display a plaque bearing the logo of the European Heritage Label. They will also be integrated into the EU's communication and promotion strategy for the European Heritage Label, thus enjoying greater visibility for their sites. Finally, winners will be invited to attend the annual site managers' conference where they can benefit from networking opportunities and peer learning.
