January 2013 saw the kick-off of a preparatory action in the field of Culture in EU External Relations.
The project has been awarded to a consortium led by the Goethe Institut and including the following members: the British Council, the Danish Cultural Institute, the European Cultural Foundation, Institut Français, Institut fur Auslandsbeziehungen (IFA), KEA European Affairs and the Center for Fine Arts (Bozar).
The purpose of this preparatory action, voted for by the EP, is to support and nurture on-going policy reflection and progress in strengthening the role that culture plays in external relations. In particular, it should contribute to formulating recommendations for a strategy on culture in European external relations.
Running until mid-2014, this process will include a comprehensive mapping exercise and a consultation process on the strategic role of culture in EU external relations, which will converge into a final conference where conclusions and recommendations will be made regarding a strategic approach to mobilising the potential of culture in EU external relations.
