The 2012 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), an initiative of the European Commission, took place on 11 January in Groningen (The Netherlands), opening the Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival.
The event, hosted by TV personality Jools Holland, featured excellent live performances by six of the ten winners:
Agnes Obel, James Vincent McMorrow, Selah Sue, Elektro Guzzi, Boy and Anna Calvi. Alexandra Stan was also present to collect her award. On top of the EBBA, Selah Sue from Belgium received the public choice award following an online vote across Europe during the months of November and December last year. .
The show was broadcast live by YouTube and will be shown on TV and Internet throughout Europe in the following weeks. Now in their ninth year, the awards are funded by the EU Culture Programme and organized by Eurosonic Noorderslag, in partnership with the European Broadcasting Union.
