Selective Support - FAQs
Are you eligible?
Selective support is for groups of at least five/seven European companies in countries participating in the MEDIA programme distributing a film from another European country in their distribution territory.
What activities are eligible?
Distribution of any film from another European country: the film must have been majority produced by a producer/producers established in countries participating in the MEDIA programme and made with a significant participation by professionals from those countries. The film must be a recent work of fiction, cartoon or documentary more than 60 minutes long and from a different country than the country of distribution. Films with a production budget of more than EUR 15 million are not eligible.
How does the support work?
A group of at least five distributors (for small films) or seven distributors (for medium films) should respond (through a coordinator) to the call for proposals. One or more distributors may join a group which has received support to distribute the same film, under the two previous session deadlines.
Award criteria
The Commission selects the groups with the highest score on a grid taking account of:
- the number of eligible distributors,
- the production cost of the film,
- the origin of the film,
- the type of film,
- the presence of the selling agent/producer as coordinator and his/her nationality.
How much support is available?
The support can cover up to 50% of the eligible distribution and promotion costs, dubbing and subtitling costs and costs of digital distribution. The maximum support is fixed at €150 000 per film.
