"The dragon and the butterfly": China's images in Montepulciano

The Library and Archives of Montepulciano has a precious collection of ancient and contemporary books on China and develops a permanent activity of promotion of better knowledge of Chinese culture and history (a special section on the website). The exhibition of paintings of Qi Baishi, from the Calamandrei family collection, as well of inks of a contemporary Chinese artist, Zhang Jin, who will be present at the opening of the exhibition, and of photo's taken during the visit of the 1st Italian cultural delegation to China, in 1955, chaired by Piero Calamandrei, will be a follow-up of previous initiatives. The most important of them were the Conference on "Europe and China: a new Silk Road" (2007), a meeting of experts and representatives of civil society on economic, cultural and spiritual aspects, discussing developments in mutual relationships in the context of globalization, and the 2009 Spring festival "Made in China", presenting Chinese books and Italian books on China. During the exhibition, public discussions on Chinese art and culture as well as on the cooperation among Tuscany and Chinese regions will be organised.
