The Culture 2000 programme supports street arts,
as the following two examples show.
SITU, platform for the creation of street arts
IN SITU is a cooperation platform for the creation
of street arts, and is supported by the European Union under Action
2 (multiannual project) of the Culture 2000 programme for the
IN SITU encourages the creation, promotion and
publicising of shows which reflect the link between artistic creation,
public spaces and citizenship in a Europe rich in its cultural and
IN SITU has undertaken to support nine artistic
projects chosen for their quality and whose subject matter looks
at Europe in a specific and relevant manner.
Three projects have already been produced and
are being performed in the cities of Europe, three new shows are
in the pipeline and one project has received a writing grant.
IN SITU is led by Lieux
Publics, Centre National de Création des Arts de la Rue
(Marseille - France), working with five co-organisers:
Antwerpen Open (Antwerp - Belgium), Arge La Strada
(Graz - Austria), Atelier 231, Pôle Régional des Arts
de la Rue (Sotteville-lès-Rouen - France), Fundación
municipal de Cultura de Valladolid (Valladolid - Spain), UZ Events
(Glasgow - United Kingdom).
European network of street arts
Eunetstar is a European network which produces,
publicises and promotes street arts in all their forms.
The network, which is led by the Ghent International
Street Theatre Festival, was set up by the artistic directors
of nine international festivals held in eight European countries
(Belgium, United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Poland, Ireland,
Slovenia and Romania).
The aim of this network is to strengthen the potential
of street arts by giving artists means of production and sharing
the expertise of its members with them.
To this end, Eunetstar:
- produces or co-produces projects which are likely to be performed
at the network's festivals,
- helps with promotion (creating websites, producing and distributing
- is carrying out scientific research on the audiences of associated
- is developing an original method of mentoring and organises specialised
Eunetstar receives support from the Culture 2000
programme under Action
2 for the 2003-2005 period.
