Greece

Category: Motor vehicles

Product: Passenger car - Steering box

Brand: FIAT

Name:

Type/number of model: Light truck, model Ducato X2/50 (Campaign 5219).

Batch number/Barcode:

OECD Portal Category:

Description: Light truck, model Ducato X2/50 (Campaign 5219).

Country of origin: Italy

Injuries

The product poses a risk of injuries because the grease on the steering box’s rack must be applied for vehicles whose chassis were built in the aforesaid interval, in order to guarantee suitable quantity and avoid possible steering stiffening over the time. This operation is needed to avoid that an eventual lack of grease between rack and pinion of the steering cause (due to the supplier’s production process) could cause steering stiffening over the time, thus prejudicing the operation of the vehicle.

Voluntary measures: Voluntary corrective actions taken by the importer.

Greece

Category: Motor vehicles

Product: Motorcycles - Fuel tank air vent pipe

Brand: HONDA

Name:

Type/number of model: Motorcycles, model CBR1000, model code SC57.

Batch number/Barcode:

OECD Portal Category:

Description: The recall concerns certain 2006 and 2007 model year CBR1000RR units. Various VIN.

Country of origin: Japan

No pictures are available

Fire

The product poses a risk of fire because the air vent pipe in the fuel tank resonates at a specific engine rotation speed and in some cases this may cause the air vent pipe to crack in the brazed portion of the air vent pipe in the bottom of the fuel tank. Construction of the fuel tank makes two different brazing methods for the air vent pipe, MIG brazing and flame brazing.

Only MIG brazed fuel tanks encounter high stress generated at the brazed area of the air vent pipe due to the shape of the brazing and cracking may occur due to fatigue, resulting in fuel leakage.

Injuries

The product poses a risk of injuries because the parking brake cable in the vehicles is not according to the specification. When the parking brake is activated there is a risk of deformation of the cables. In this situation the effectiveness of the parking brake could be reduced or lost. The vehicle may start rolling and possibly hit a pedestrian causing personal injury.

Burns

The product poses a risk of skin burns because the manufacturer’s marking in the device gives a false information of the UV type of the sunbed and consequently UV irradiance of it as it should not be classified to UV type 3 determined in the standard EN 60335-2-27. The erythemally effective irradiance shall not exceed 0,15 W/m2 for both wavelengths shorter or equal than 320 nm and longer than 320 nm. In the lower part the measured values were 0,136 W/m2 (wavelength l£320 nm) and 0,183 W/m2 (wavelength l>320 nm) and in the upper part 0,230 W/m2 (l£320 nm) and 0,151 W/m2 (l>320 nm), respectively. The measured values for facial tanner were 0,173 W/m2 (l£320 nm) and 0,170 W/m2 (l>320 nm).

In addition, the measurements revealed that - with this exactly same lamp name (brand) - exist two different UV output (UV spectrum) of the lamp, which should not be possible.

The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 60335-2-27.

Description: The XE103 is an Ethernet adaptor that uses house wiring to implement a local area network. When used in pairs, the XE103 transmits and receives Ethernet data up to 85Mbs. The XE103 is equipped with one RJ45 Ethernet connector.

Country of origin: China

Click on the picture to enlarge

Fire

The product poses a serious risk of fire because the power supply integrated circuit (IC) within the XE103 may fail. Such IC failure may cause another component, called a Polyswitch, which is used to limit the current delivered to the product, to also fail. When the Polyswitch fails, it releases a small amount of smoke and soot and a visible flash of light. The duration of this is approximately 3 seconds and does not produce flaming combustion or glowing embers that escape the enclosure. This event does not pose a risk to surrounding light combustible material or a safety hazard to a user. However, on the basis of the external testing that has been carried out, it cannot be ruled out that a very small number of units that experience a Polyswitch failure may also experience a more severe failure, if a conduction path is established between the two unprotected solder nodes that connect AC power to the printed circuit board. If this occurs, light combustible materials surrounding the product may ignite.

Voluntary measures: Voluntary corrective actions taken by the manufacturer.

Electric shock

The product poses a risk of electric shock because:

the transformer is not compliant in respect of:

- protection against adverse effects: the transformer did not pass the subsequent hygroscopic test,

- insulation resistance and electrical strength: it did not pass the electrical rigidity test,

- construction: the primary and secondary circuits are not electrically separated from each other, the transformer is equipped with condensers that create an electrical connection between the primary and secondary circuits and it does not have an IP 24 protection rating. The transformer does not meet the requirements for transformers classified as being Class II,

- classification: in accordance with the degree of protection against dust and moisture it is classified as IP 20, whereas this should be IP 24 or higher,

- marking and instructions: it does not bear the correct symbol indicating that it is a short-circuit proof transformer, and the marks printed on the transformer information panel are not indelible;

and because the luminaire is not compliant in respect of:

- terminals: the terminals do not pass the test for the efficiency of permanent connections,

- external and internal wiring: the cable did not pass the tensile test,

- classification of luminaires: in accordance with the type of protection against electric shock it appears to be a Class II lighting chain, but on the electronic control equipment it is shown as being Class III,

Electric shock

The product poses a risk of electric shock because:

the transformer is not compliant in respect of:

- protection against adverse effects: the transformer did not pass the subsequent hygroscopic test and the test of electrical rigidity between the live parts of the primary circuit and the live parts of the secondary circuit, - the primary and secondary circuits are not electrically separated from each other,

- the transformer does not have a protection rating of IP 24,

- it does not bear the symbol indicating that it is a short-circuit-proof transformer for portable Class III luminaires for use with tungsten filament lamps (integrated or not), instead of the symbol for a short-circuit proof transformer with circuit separation, and the marks printed on the transformer information panel are not indelible,

- the transformer is equipped with condensers that create an electrical connection between the primary and secondary circuits;

and because the luminaire is not compliant in respect of:

- the terminals do not pass the test for the efficiency of permanent connections and the cable did not pass the tensile test,

- in accordance with the type of protection against electric shock this appears to be a Class II lighting chain, but on the electronic control equipment it is shown as being Class III. Furthermore, the packaging bears the words “100% exterior”, while both the instructions and a label attached to the chain state that this is for indoor use. It therefore presents contradictory information regarding its classification.

The product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard EN 60598.

Injuries

The product poses a serious risk of injuries because:

- the plastics of the guards are defective,

- the guards are fragile,

- in mitre mode the fixed upper guard allows the test finger to come into contact with the teeth of the cutting disc,

- the fastening anchorage of the lower protector in mitre mode is too fragile, it breaks without any effort in attempting to fit it, and cannot therefore be used,

- the rear guard of the cutting disc in the mitre position is plastic with manufacturing defects which make it very fragile, it breaks when the disc is fitted, leaving a great number of cutting disc teeth (approximately 5 cm) exposed (para.s 1.4.1/2/3),

- the cutting disc can be fitted in a very eccentric position in its housing because it does not have clamp flanges, an effective guide for the disc or if the spindle is too small for the disc supplied. When the disc is off-centre it causes strong vibrations when starting up and stopping. It also causes resonance at maximum power which causes a loud, piercing noise and could cause the flanges to loosen, leaving the cutting disc loose.

The product does not comply with Machinery Directive and the relevant European standard EN 12100.

Compulsory measures: Sales ban and withdrawal from the market ordered by the authorities.
