Damage to sight

This product poses a risk of damage to sight because it is a Class 3B laser device, and potentially dangerous to the sight in any conditions of use. Prolonged exposure to moderate levels of laser light may cause irreversible changes in the eye, and particularly in the retina and the crystalline lens. The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 60825.

Compulsory measures: Sales ban and withdrawal from the market ordered by the authorities.

Choking and suffocation

The product poses a serious risk of:

- choking because the plastic toggle/cordgrip on draw string can easily be detached and fitting entirely within the small parts cylinder,

- suffocation by strangulation because the decorative cords on the sample protruded 150mm (maximum allowed length is 140mm).

The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN-71 and EN 14682.

Voluntary measures: Voluntary withdrawal from the market.

The board measures 21 cm x 14 cm in total and weighs 110 g.

The product poses a risk of suffocation because its thickness is only 0.028 mm thick (minimum thickness required is 0.038 mm), unperforated and it has a perimeter of 470 mm.

The product does not comply with the Toys Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71.

Description: Stab vest consisting of front and back covers (sleeveless) with velcro secures over shoulder straps and side straps. The vest covers the front and back torso. The vest is made up of an outer black or white cover material with inner front and back panels. The inner panels are olive green panels and inside these there are fourteen sheets of yellow course weave Aramid (Kevlar) per panel. The olive green panels have been previously removed from ex German Army flak jackets and will still bear the original German makers mark on labelling attached to the panels or stencilled directly on the panels. There is no outer packaging other than a cardboard box. There are no instructions for the product.

Injuries

The product poses a serious risk of injuries because fourteen layers of aramid are not sufficient on their own to give protection against even a very low level (below 10 joules of energy) knife stab attack. It is not suitable (without treatment such as resin bonding or the addition of chain mail) for use as knife protection as the fibres can easily be parted and cut by a knife.

Compulsory measures: Withdrawal from the market and recall from consumers ordered by the authorities.

The product poses a serious chemical risk because the glove seams contain colouring agents ‘C.I. Disperse Blue 3’ and ‘C.I. Disperse Yellow 3’.

8 skin irritation cases have been reported.

Voluntary measures: Voluntary withdrawal from the market and recall from consumers by the producer.
