Electric shock

This product poses a risk of electric shock because when the product is plugged in but switched off, the heating element is live. The heating element can be touched with the index finger.

Whether the heating element is live depends on the position of the plug. The product clearly does not have all-pole disconnection, which is normally standard in toasters.

One accident reported.

This product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard EN 60335-1.

The product poses a chemical risk because it contains a number of volatile organic chemicals:

- 100-1000 mg/kg of cyclohexanone, - 10-100 mg/kg of xylenes, - 10-100 mg/kg of C3-alkyl-benzenes, - small and not quantified amounts of toluene, methyl-isobutylketone, octa-hydro-naftaline, methyl-decaline and hydrocarbons.

These substances can cause possible irritation and allergic reaction on skin contact or inhalation.

The product does not comply with the Toys Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-9.

Poisoning

The product poses a risk of poisoning because a number of the Child Resistant Fasteners (CRF) have been found not to be properly engaged.

Hand closing of CRFs successfully engages the CRF effectively removing the hazard. Neither the CRF or the container have been found to be defective.

The product poses a risk of poisoning as the result of ingesting (drinking the product) which has as an ingredient benzalkonium chloride – fungicidal component.

- spokes close to a change-speed on the rear wheel are not guarded. If incorrectly changing the gear, there is a risk of stopping wheel rotation due to the cross-over of the spokes with the chain.
