Injuries

The product poses a risk of injury because under specific conditions, namely during a very slow or soft brake pedal operation, one of brake circuit might be non-functional due to a contamination of the brake fluid. Soft or slow operation of brake pedal is a specific condition but not an unusual one: especially when we drive a care in a high speed, a soft push of the break pedal can reduce the speed of the car, so as to – for example – make a turn with the proper speed. If the car does not slow down, it could deviate from its ordinary route, causing an accident or forcing the car to go off the road. The basic brake function can be securely obtained by normal and emergency operation on brake pedal.

Voluntary measures: Voluntary corrective action taken by the producer

External injuries

Fatigue fractures may occur in the plastic connecting parts in the grating sieve (probably as a result of repeated washing in dishwashing machines). The sieve then breaks and parts may be projected at high velocity through the cover. Persons operating the appliance or standing in the immediate vicinity may be injured by the flying fragments.

Three accidents causing injury are known to have occurred (severe lacerations to the face, arms and hands).

Voluntary measures: Voluntary recall from consumers by the producer

The toy thus gives rise to a risk of choking. This product does not comply with the Toys Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71.

Compulsory measures: Withdrawal from the market and information to consumers ordered by the authority

Cuts

This product poses a serious risk of cuts to the user because it includes in the vicinity of the loop a metal part which is liable to come into contact with the user's hand in the event of sudden tension on the leash produced by sudden, uncontrolled movement by the animal. Thus in normal use of this product, the user may suffer cuts and injuries of differing degrees to the hand. Although the lesions caused may generally be slight, the probability of their occurrence is high, and the risk is considered serious given that the danger is not obvious and there are no warnings of it.

One accident has been reported in which the user suffered wounds to his right hand when the dog pulled on the leash.

Injuries

This product poses a serious risk of injury threatening the health of consumers and of people around because:

- the hammer is made of common grey cast iron, with large graphite inclusions, suggesting very reduced strength, which is a pre-condition for breaking at stronger load on the fork, and eventually a metal part may spring off. Therefore, there is a risk of separation of the plastic handle from the metal stem;

- the screwdrivers are made of low-carbon steel, not allowing for thermal treatment in order to increase the working reliability. Therefore, there is a risk of deformation (bending, twisting, rapid wearing) or breaking of the front working part of the screwdrivers.

Compulsory measures: Sales ban, withdrawal from the market, recall from consumers ordered by the authority
