Electric shock

There is a risk of electric shock due to the fact that there is not sufficient electrical insulation in the mains transformer between the primary and the secondary windings. Secondary circuit of a computer is touched when, e.g., connecting peripheral devices such as a printer, a monitor and multimedia speakers and also when touching these peripheral devices. While the electrical insulation in the mains transformer of the power supply unit between the primary and the secondary windings is insufficient, the mains voltage may exist in the secondary circuit in case of a single fault condition. This causes a risk of electric shock.

This product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive and the European Standard EN 60950.

Compulsory measures: Recall from consumers ordered by the authority.

Choking,
Injuries

The “Baby’s 1st” Christmas Stocking is considered to pose a serious risk of choking or injury to babies and young children due to the “eyes” and “sequins” on the product becoming detached.

Initial tests on the stocking showed that the eyes could become detached at forces as low as 2.4N, and sequins could become detached at forces as low as 3.4N. The expert stated that the nature of the product means that it would come into contact with young children and is likely that it would be played with by a child. The expert was of the opinion that the “eyes” and “sequins” could be picked or bitten off by young children and could cause a choking hazard. If inhaled, these components could pass into the larynx of even a newborn baby, and could become lodged in a bronchus, causing significant safety concerns for babies and young children.

Voluntary measures: Voluntary withdrawal from the market and recall from consumers by the importer.

Fire,
Burns

An internal fault within the battery cell can cause shorting and thermal runaway, which in turn can cause overheating which could result in extreme heat and/or flaming combustion. If that were to occur, it is possible that combustible materials in contact with such a Battery Pack could be damaged (singed, charred, melted or burned) and that burns or other injuries could result.

Apple has been notified of a total of fourteen incidents, of which eleven were in the US and one each in Canada, Japan and the UK. Minor burns were reported in two of the US incidents and the one in Japan. In addition, while several customers’ computers have been damaged, no other injuries or substantial property damage has been reported.
