Risk of electric shock. The mains cable has only 2 leads and there is no protective conductor. The mains cable is soldered to the power strip contacts. The housing is secured by cross-head screws and can thus be opened using ordinary tools. The tension-relief device for the mains cable is insufficient.

Microbiological risk. Detection of contamination with the bacterium Burkholderia cepacia. This bacterium has been associated with nosocomial infections, particularly in persons with weakened immune systems. These nosocomial infections can manifest as bacteraemia, urinary tract infections, septic arthritis and respiratory infections, among others.

Compulsory measures: Prohibition of sale and withdrawal from the market ordered by authority.

Risk of electric shock. The indication on the transformer (indoor use only) is different from the one indicated on the packaging (offered for outdoor use). There is risk of electric shock due to the fact that water can get on the transformer not protected against ingress of water. Lighting chain is not provided with a plug protected against splashed water and is not suitable for permanent connection to the mains supply with wiring box (what is required for the outdoor use lightings). These products do not comply with the LVD Directive and the European Standards.

Compulsory measures: Order of withdrawal and prohibition of sale ordered by the authority.

Description: The toy is made of plastic and is in the shape of a bear. There is a ‘weight’ incorporated in its lower part providing balance and allowing the toy to swing, upon which it emits jingling sounds. The toy is packed in a transparent cellophane bag.

Risk of injury. During the drop test the side of the toy broke and the base of the toy with the metal jingling mechanism separated from the toy. In the case of one sample, the base broke off along with small sharp plastic shards. The jingling mechanism is composed of a slightly rusted cast-iron base, into which slightly rusted steel wires are inserted.

Voluntary measures: The retailer voluntarily informed consumers about the possibility to return the product and withdraw the product from the market.

Risk of electric shock, fire. During the test (at the testing current 12A) the welding of the contacts occurred after 10 operations and in other case after 12 operations (200 operations are required by standard). Once the contacts have been welded, it is impossible to disconnect completely the appliance from the mains. This product does not comply with the LVD Directive and the European Standards.

Compulsory measures: Prohibition of sale ordered by authority.

Information about the reacting countries is available in the RAPEX weekly overviews in the column 'Products were found and measures were taken also in'. The Commission RAPEX team will publish reactions sent (from May2009 onwards) to 2009 RAPEX notifications.
