The product poses a risk of fire because a crack in the fuel filler neck area of the fuel tank may allow fuel/or fuel vapours to escape from the fuel tank. Over an extended period of time, the cracks could eventually cause a complete separation of the fuel filler neck. The loss of fuel or fuel vapours arising from a crack in the fuel filler neck could potentially cause a fire hazard. We consider that the crack in the fuel filler neck and failures of the fuel filler necks are caused by the use of an incorrect high density polyethylene (HDPE) material for the fuel filler neck that is moulded into the top of the fuel tank.
