Your rights in consumer contracts
While national authorities and organisations can provide specific advice on consumer issues in the different EU countries, the Commission ensures better harmonisation of consumer laws at EU level by introducing important legislative initiatives.
This year's European Consumer Summit on 17 October 2016 was entirely dedicated to the Fitness Check of EU consumer and marketing law. For further information, please see the Consumer Summit 2016 web page.
EU consumer laws
DG Justice ensures a better harmonisation of consumer laws by introducing important legislative initiatives, such as:
- The Directive related to sales and guarantees, covering certain aspects of the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees.
- The Directive related to unfair contract terms protecting the consumers against unfair terms in consumer contracts.
- The Directive on consumer rights protecting the consumers in respect of distance contracts and contracts negotiated away from business premises as well as in respect of certain other aspects of consumer contracts; the Directives on distance selling and doorstep selling will be subsequently repealed.
