Consumer evidence

Knowledge of consumer markets, national consumer conditions and consumer behaviour in the EU helps make better European policies, and smarter regulation. To build a knowledge base, the Commission gathers relevant information by monitoring markets and national consumer conditions and studying consumer behaviour.

How are markets monitored?

The Commission monitors how the single market works for consumers in two stages:

  1. Identifying malfunctioning markets from the consumers' perspective with the Consumer Scoreboard;

  2. Analysing in-depth selected markets through market studies to find the main consumer problems and suggest policy solutions.
