"Don't Shop in the Dark!"
EU Consumer Commissioner Meglena Kuneva
"In today's marketplace consumers are too often left operating in the dark. As they go around supermarkets, when they click online, when they try to switch their phone or energy suppliers, consumers can't see prices clearly, can't compare offers easily and they are faced with an information overload." said EU Consumer Commissioner Meglena Kuneva.
The new poster campaign for European Consumer Day centres on the message: "Know Your Rights, Use Your Rights". It is an appeal to consumers to take power back in their hands, to get informed and to use their power of comparison and of choice.
The poster is also part of the European Commission's broader drive to challenge the conventional stereotypes and change the way people think about consumers. "We want to put consumers back where they belong, as a driving force for competition and for the economy," said Commissioner Kuneva.
