Consumer Research

Knowledge of consumer markets, of national consumer conditions and consumer behaviour in the EU helps make better European policies, and smarter regulation.

To build a knowledge base, the Commission gathers evidence by monitoring markets and national consumer conditions and studying consumer behaviour.

How are markets monitored?

We monitor how the single market is working for consumer in 2 stages:

  1. Identify markets malfunctioning from the consumers' perspective with the Consumer Market Scoreboard;
  2. Analyse in-depth selected markets to find the main consumer problems and to suggest policy solutions.
