The new approach to State aids – recent reforms under the State Aid Action Plan and next steps

In the course of this full-day event, chaired by the Commissioner for competition, Ms. Neelie Kroes, the Commission presented the draft simplification package - the final step of the current reform of EU State Aid control. The Commission also addressed the role of State aid control in the current financial crisis.

During the morning session, the Commissioner and the DG Competition team informed the audience of the achievements thus far under the current State Aid reform and about the details of the upcoming draft simplification package. In the afternoon, State aid policy was analysed in a broader context by a panel of high level participants from the most important stakeholders of European State aid control: Member States, industry, academics and the legal community (click here for the biographies of the speakers).
Participants received a copy of a special edition of the Competition Policy newsletter focusing on State aid. The revised vademecum on State aid rules was also distributed.
