  • Commission approves acquisition of Shell's Harburg refinery assets by Nynas AB of Sweden

    The Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of certain refinery assets of Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH located in Hamburg/Harburg (Germany) by Nynas AB of Sweden. The Commissionís in-depth investigation showed that a closure of the Harburg refinery assets is the most likely scenario in the absence of the proposed transaction. This would significantly reduce the production capacity in the EEA market for naphthenic base and process oils, which are used in a variety of products (e.g. industrial rubber, adhesives, fertilisers), and for transformer oils ('TFO'), which are used to insulate power transformers. The closure would lead to higher prices for European consumers.

  • Commission approves plan to orderly wind down Hypo Group Alpe Adria
    3 September 2013
    The Commission has approved a plan to orderly wind down the Austrian bank Hypo Group Alpe Adria (HGAA). The Commission found that the plan presented by the Austrian authorities is compatible with EU state aid rules. Together with the approval of the plan, the Commission cleared both the aid hitherto granted to HGAA and additional aid possibly required for the wind-down.

  • Joined cases T-289/11, T-290/11, T-521/11 Deutsche Bahn inspections
    6 September 2013
    The General Court ruled on appeals against several Commission decisions of 2011 regarding inspections at the premises of Deutsche Bahn. The GC dismissed the appeals on all grounds and fully confirmed the legality of the Commission's inspection decisions.
