  • Commission sends Telefónica and Portugal Telecom statement of objections regarding non-compete agreement

    The Commission has sent a statement of objections to Telefónica and Portugal Telecom, respectively the Spanish and Portuguese incumbent telecoms operators, regarding their agreement not to compete on the Iberian telecommunications markets. The Commission is of the preliminary view that this agreement hinders competition in breach of EU antitrust rules that prohibit restrictive business practices.

  • Commission approves acquisition of Lafarge's gypsum assets by Belgian building material producer Etex
    28 October 2011
    The Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of several European and South American companies of the Lafarge group active in gypsum-related products by Etex of Belgium, a manufacturer of building material and systems. The Commission found that the proposed transaction would not raise competition concerns, because the parties are not each others closest competitors and the transaction will not significantly alter the market structure.

  • Commission approves Tech Data's acquisition of computer-aided design software distribution business of Mensch und Maschine
    27 October 2011
    The Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of the value added distribution business of Mensch und Maschine Software by Tech Data Europe, a wholesaler of IT, consumer electronics and telecommunication products. The Commission concluded that the transaction would not raise competition problems, because the parties have only moderate market shares and will continue to face a sufficient number of competitors in all markets concerned.

  • Commission approves joint venture between ECE and Metro for supply of property management services in Germany
    26 October 2011
    The Commission has approved the creation of a joint venture between the German commercial property manager ECE and Metro Asset Management Services, a subsidiary of the German Metro Group, for the provision of retail property management services. The Commission concluded that ECE and the joint venture would continue to face sufficient competition from other providers of retail property management services.

  • Commission opens in-depth review of restructuring of Banco Português de Negócios
    24 October 2011
    The Commission has opened an in-depth investigation to assess whether the proposed restructuring of Banco Português de Negócios (BPN) is in line with EU state aid rules. The opening of an in-depth investigation will enable the Commission to gather all the information it needs to assess the compatibility of the aid and allow third parties the possibility to submit their views on the matter.
