Hearing officers

Mission > Advisors to the Commissioner

The Hearing Officers are in a position to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the legal and factual issues involved in individual competition proceedings, since they are kept informed by the senior management of DG Competition of essential developments, and they chair the oral hearing where DG Competition and the parties present their arguments. This knowledge, together with their experience, means they are well placed to make observations on the proceedings, where appropriate.

In addition to sharing their knowledge on the individual casework, the Hearing Officers frequently have been consulted in questions regarding procedural rights, participation of complainants and third persons and have taken part in discussions on due process-related issues.
