"Gute Jobs für alle" translates as “good jobs for all”, but what does that really mean? It means jobs that offer
people a life in dignity and a fair share of the gains from economic activity. It means jobs that help build a responsible society, both locally and
globally. It means jobs that are contributing to progress through innovation and respect for the environment.
This ambition is achievable. European enterprises and industry can provide more and better jobs, but they need everyone’s support to rise to this critical challenge. They are “the strong horse that pulls the whole cart”, as Winston Churchill expressed it, but governments must avoid overloading the
cart with unnecessary burdens. Alongside President Barroso, I am orchestrating the efforts of this Commission as we work with Member States to
put the right conditions in place for European business to thrive and contribute to our society. I am convinced that together we can generate
sustainable economic growth and turn “good jobs for all” into a way of life for Europe.
