Erasmus: changing lives, opening minds for 25 years

Brussels, 30 January 2012 – Erasmus, the world's most successful student exchange programme, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Nearly three million students have benefited from a study period or work placement abroad since the creation of the Erasmus programme in 1987. Under the slogan, 'Erasmus: changing lives, opening minds for 25 years', the silver anniversary celebrations will be launched today by Androulla Vassiliou.

European Capital of Culture: President Barroso and President of Portugal open Guimarães 2012

The Portuguese city of Guimarães will host a major theatrical and multimedia open-air show tomorrow (21 January) to mark the start of its year as 2012 European Capital of Culture. European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Portugal's President Anibal Cavaco Silva will attend the festivities will focus on the city's history (its centre is a UNESCO world heritage site), as well as on contemporary and innovative cultural themes.
