Vice-President Tajani paves the way for EU companies in Latin America
Vice President Antonio Tajani visited South American countries (Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay) to renew and ensure a strong political relation with the EU and strengthen the co-operation in strategic fields, such as industrial innovation, raw materials, standards and market integration, SMEs, space and tourism during 2011.
South America and European Union have genuine interest in increasing bilateral trade and investment in mutually beneficial relation to boost growth and create jobs.

After many year since a European Commissioner has been on mission in Chile on 09 June 2011, Vice President Tajani gave the clear political sign on the importance of the economics and business relations between the European Commission and Chile.

On 16 December 2011 Vice President Tajani met the President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff and signed three important agreements to enhance cooperation in the field of small and medium-sized enterprises, promote technology clusters and exchanges of young professionals between the two sides of the Atlantic. In this visit VP Tajani was accompanied by 25 European CEOs from all main industrial sectors.

During his visit to Argentina on 17 December 2011, Vice President Tajani discussed with President Cristina Elisabet Fernández de Kirchner, the Minister of Industry Debora Giorgi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Héctor Marcos Timerman measures to strengthen political and economic relations between the EU and Argentina, focusing in strategic sectors such as industrial innovation, raw materials, standards and integration of markets, SMEs, space and tourism. Minister Giorgi and VP Tajani signed agreements on small and medium enterprises, industrial cooperation and raw materials.

Uruguay
On 20 December 2011, Vice President Tajani represented the European Commission at the annual Summit of the Mercosur countries in Montevideo, Uruguay. During the visit, he also met with President of Uruguay José Mujica Cordano, Minister for Tourism and Sports Héctor Lescano, and Minister for Industry, Energy and Mining Roberto Kreimerman and signed important agreements in areas of industrial cooperation, SMEs, raw materials, standardization and tourism.
