Commissioner Šemeta welcomes tax agenda of the Hungarian Presidency
Today Commissioner Šemeta together with other Members of the European Commission visited Hungary, where he met with the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
After the plenary session with the Hungarian Government and the meeting with the Minister of National Economy György Matolcsy Commissioner Šemeta said he is confident, that Hungarian Presidency will keep the political momentum in the negotiations on "good governance" package and the Savings tax directive. The foreseen agendas for the ECOFIN Council provide for ambitious, yet realistic progress on the tax files during the Hungarian Presidency.
It was also agreed that the newest initiatives of the European Commission will be given due attention during Hungarian Presidency. Namely, the communication of the Commission to remove cross-border tax obstacles for the citizens, which was presented in December last year as well as the initiative of the Common consolidated corporate tax base, to be presented by the Commissioner Šemeta this year.
