On Wednesday 22 February, Vice-President Šefčovič welcomed the signing of a revised Protocol of Co-operation between the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) which provides a bridge between Europe and organised civil society. The new agreement updates relations in light of the Lisbon Treaty, takes on board new co-operation practices and simplifies procedures. Vice-President Šefčovič said: "This revised Protocol is a clear demonstration of the excellent co-operation which exists between our two organisations."
Visit to Ireland: EU careers, financial crisis and ECI on the agenda

Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič begins a two-day visit to Ireland on Thursday where his busy agenda will include meetings with both houses of the Oireachtas, a discussion on the EU response to the crisis and a debate on the forthcoming European Citizens' Initiative.

Am Freitag besuchte Vizepräsident Maroš Šefčovič das Europakolleg in Brügge (Belgien), um zwei Jahre nach Inkrafttreten des Vertrags von Lissabon dessen Auswirkungen auf den politischen Entscheidungsprozess der EU zu erörtern.
In seiner Rede ging Vizepräsident Šefčovič insbesondere auf die Vorteile ein, die der neue Vertrag im Hinblick auf die Zusammenarbeit und Koordinierung zwischen den verschiedenen EU-Institutionen gebracht hat, sowie darauf, wie sich die neue Arbeitsmethode bei der Bewältigung der aktuellen Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise bewährt hat.

Am Donnerstag, 9. Februar, besuchte Vizepräsident Maroš Šefčovič das bulgarische Parlament. Ganz oben auf der Tagesordnung standen die Freizügigkeit der Arbeitnehmer, die Ausweitung des Schengenraums sowie das Kooperations- und Kontrollverfahren zur Bewertung der Fortschritte des Landes bei der Justizreform und anderen Reformen.
