International conference on 'Secure energy supply' and discussion on EFSF with Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič
EC Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič took part in the SES 2011 'Secure energy supply' - international conference being held in Bratislava on 29.-30. September 2011 under the auspices of the Slovak President.
In his speech [69 KB] and presentation [2 MB] , the Vice-President underlined the strategic importance of the EU energy policy and introduced its future key objectives: security of supply, sustainability and competitiveness of the EU energy.
He called upon better energy efficiency, investments into renewables and more integrated european energy market.
"Slovak electricity market coupling with the Czech Republic and Hungary is a good example of successful integration leading to more security and flexibility", said the Vice-President.
EU offers a number od options in order to help the Slovak energy market: be it cooperation in interconnecting Europe, in R&D energy projects or preparation/training of energy experts.
2-days conference continued with expert pannel discussions on security of supply, research, renewables and environment.
On 30th of September Vice-President M. Šefčovič met President of the Slovak Republic I. Gašparovič in order to discuss a topical issue - European Financial Stability Facility. The meeting was followed by a joint press conference on the issue.
