European School System
Today I will support European schools in the Parliament
Tonight in the plenary of the European Parliament, I will have the opportunity to comment on Mr Cavada's report on the European School system, and to underline how essential European schools are for the European Institutions and their staff.
I will insist on the importance of the schools for a well-functioning public service with a large number of expatriate staff from all over Europe. I will also confirm the Commission's support for spreading the European Curriculum in the Member States via the accreditation of national schools, in view of developing a European form of schooling and improving professional mobility.
Of course, I won't fail to mention the several challenges that the European schools face either - the governance of the system, their infrastructure, the secondment of national teachers and the budgetary constraints. I will ask the Member States and the Parliament for their help to find the best practical answers to these difficult questions.
In all circumstances, the preservation of the schools' core curriculum must remain a clear priority for the Commission.
