European Institutions Open Doors Day 2011
On May 7, 2011, the Berlaymont building – the heart of the European Commission - opened its doors from 10 am until 6 pm. Visitors were able to discover what the EU does for its citizens: encouraging smarter energy use, helping young people to study and work abroad, promoting technological innovation, fighting counterfeit goods or protecting consumers. All this was accompanied by a range of fun activities.
People were able to try being an interpreter or translator for one day, take part in a series of games or win a prize in one of the many quizzes. Commission officials were on hand to answer every question imaginable, like: Which projects get EU funding in my region? How can I get a job in the EU institutions? There were also guided visits of the room where the Commissioners hold their meetings on the top floor of the Berlaymont. And outside the building, there was lots of entertainment for adults and children.
