Meeting with Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič

Vice-President of the European Commission for Inter-Institutional Relations and Administration Maroš Šefčovič, who was paying the first official visit to his home country of his current term, met with Slovakia’s President Ivan Gasparovič on Thursday 4 March. Mr. Šefčovič informed the president of the new consultation mechanism that national parliaments will use in order to comment on EU legislation.
The president wanted to know how the positions of the Slovak Parliament can affect the legislative process in Brussels. In line with the new rules, national parliaments will have eight weeks to review essential EU proposals, which means that national parliaments will be able to enter the p rocess of preparation of EU legislative legislation.
President Gašparovič and Vice President of the EC Maroš Šefčovič also spoke about the establishment of the future EU external action service, its operation and when it will be established.
