23/07/2013 - Vice-President Reding in Sofia to debate with citizens about the future of Europe

Vice-President Reding and the Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev are getting together in Sofia to debate with over 250 citizens about the future of Europe. This is the 25th Citizens' Dialogue in a series of events European Commissioners, national and local politicians, as well as Members of the European Parliament are holding across the breadth and width of the European Union.

17/07/2013 - Protecting taxpayers’ money against fraud: Commission proposes European Public Prosecutor's Office

Today, the European Commission is taking action to improve Union-wide prosecution of criminals who defraud EU taxpayers by establishing a European Public Prosecutor's Office. Its exclusive task will be to investigate and prosecute and, where relevant, bring to judgement – in the member states' courts - crimes affecting the EU budget.

16/07/2013 - Vice-President Reding in Heidelberg to debate with citizens about the future of Europe

After 24 dialogues with citizens in 14 Member States, it is now Baden-Württemberg's turn. Vice-President Viviane Reding is in Heidelberg to participate in a debate with over 400 citizens about the future of the European Union.

Vice-President Reding said: "The 1848 Heidelberg assembly was a milestone in German history, contributing to the development of democracy in Germany. We now need a similar democratic movement in Europe."

11/07/2013 - Vice-President Reding in Warsaw (Poland) to debate with citizens about the future of Europe

After 22 dialogues with citizens in 14 Member States, it is now Poland's turn. On Thursday, President José Manuel Barroso and Vice-President Viviane Reding are in Warsaw to participate in a debate with over 400 citizens about the future of the European Union.

Vice-President Reding said: "Poland belongs to the inner circle of the European Union and Polish influence has been crucial in leading Europe out of the crisis. I expect Poland to continue playing an active and important role in pushing for a stronger Europe."

Planning your summer vacation? You can do it with peace of mind. The EU is acting to make sure European consumers are protected- wherever they go on holiday. Thanks to EU rules on package travel, consumers are protected today when booking pre-arranged package holidays, such as combinations of flights, hotels, or car rentals. And today we are taking a step further, updating EU rules on package travel from 1990. This will give extra protection to people booking customised holidays online, and bring EU rules on package travel into the digital age.

03/07/2013 - U.S. surveillance activities – Plenary debate in the European Parliament

Speaking in Strasbourg today, during a plenary debate in the European Parliament on the recent revelations about U.S. surveillance activities and the surveillance programmes in various EU Member States, Vice-President Reding recalled that national security issues cannot be at the expense of EU citizens' fundamental rights, in particular the right to privacy.

01/07/2013 - Croatia becomes the 28th member of the European Union

Vice-President Reding is in Zagreb today to open the offices of the European Commission Representation in Croatia.

On the occasion of Croatia's accession to the EU, Vice-President Reding said: "It has been a long, hard journey. But it has been worth it: Today Croatia becomes the 28th member of the European Union. Membership is the beginning not the end of the journey. I expect Croatia to keep up its efforts in the field of the rule of law, and to step up the fight against corruption."
