EU-US cooperation on data protection: Towards a new gold standard
EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding opened a transatlantic conference today on data protection. EU and US experts are discussing the European Commission’s proposed modernisation of the 1995 data protection rules. The two sides have also published a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to promote the rights of individuals to have their personal data protected and to facilitate interoperability of commercial data privacy regimes. On this occasion, Viviane Reding, said:
"Let us build a new gold standard of data protection based on clear and strong laws allowing our businesses and citizens to fully benefit from the digital economy."
